Apertures:

1. Wide angle - for the best possible general diagnosis through a dilated pupil
2. Intermediate - particularly useful in paediatric examination, permits easier access through an undilated pupil
3. Macular - reduces excessive pupillary reaction and patient discomfort
4. Slit - to determine retinal elevations and depressions and anterior chamber depth
5. Fixation cross - for assessment of the degree and direction of eccentric fixation
6. Blue Filter - used in combination with Fluorescein for assessing corneal scratches
