Sustainability & Environmental Policy

Medical Supermarket are committed to continuing to improve our environmental performance, minimising our environmental impact and making resource efficiency a core requirement of all our operations. We will seek to promote good practice by others.

Our organisation

Energy
Medical Supermarket will monitor and manage its consumption and use of energy. We will work to reduce the consumption of energy and to reduce our contribution to emissions of gases and other pollutants which are believed to contribute to climate change.

Water
Medical Supermarket will work to reduce the consumption of water within our buildings and reduce discharges.

Waste
Medical Supermarket will work to reduce the volume of waste within its buildings, by wherever possible:

  1. Reducing consumption of
  2. Repairing
  3. Re-using
  4. Recycling

Transport
Medical Supermarket will monitor and work to reduce its contribution to environmental emissions from travel undertaken for business purposes.

Procurement
Medical Supermarket will purchase goods and services to minimise adverse environmental effects. Medical Supermarket will seek to undertake sustainable procurement actions that comply with EC regulatory requirements and UK Government policy on public procurement and its requirement to provide best value.Medical Supermarket will use local suppliers where appropriate and will encourage its suppliers to commit to improving environmental performance.

Other
Where possible, Medical Supermarket will monitor and manage its consumption and use of other resources and materials used within the building, working to minimise our reliance on non-renewable resources and to avoid use of any hazardous substances where practicable.

Our staff
We recognise the responsibility staff have in contributing to good environmental management. Medical Supermarket will seek to harness and channel the enthusiasm and interest shown by staff and will provide appropriate information and support to ensure that all staff exercise their environmental responsibility.

Our visitors
Medical Supermarket will encourage our visitors to cherish our environment so that it can be appreciated by future generations. We will seek to raise awareness amongst our visitors of the impact harming the environment can have and what they can do to reduce their impact typically by recycling.

Environmental Policy Statement

Medical Supermarket acknowledges the impact of its activities on the environment in a number of ways. Medical Supermarket therefore seeks solutions to environmental problems by adopting sound principles and best practice according to the principles of sustainable development.

1. The development and implementation of this policy is a commitment of Medical Supermarkets management and a shared responsibility with its employees.

2. Integrate environmental management into each aspect of our day to day business operation to ensure environmental issues are addressed.

3. To comply with environmental and health and safety laws and regulations, to the extent that practical implementation aims to exceed government requirements.

4. Seek to reduce wastage of national resources such as energy, water and raw materials, and maximise efficient use of such resources, reuse and recycle rather than dispose of such materials.

5. Ensure all employees have an understanding and are trained in their responsibilities in relation to the environmental policy and management system.

6. Ensure that suppliers and contractors minimise the impact of their operations on the environment and actively support our environmental programmes through an environmentally sound purchasing policy.

7. Monitor progress on a regular basis to identify strengths and areas for improvement and highlight actions required.

8. Environmental performance will be reported annually. In particular, in order to implement this policy we will address a comprehensive set of objectives and targets identified as a result of our environmental review, which relate to our environmental impacts of our organisation. We intend to reduce our environmental impacts through improvements in:

  • Energy use. (Services)
  • Waste reduction, including disposal of goods.
  • Contamination management.
  • Recycling, including office paper.
  • Business travel.
  • Purchasing.
  • Staff training.
