What the Audit involves:
An external assessor will come to site to inspect review the below areas ensuring that they are up to infection control standards, providing feedback on any action required.
- Waste Management:
Waste is managed safely and in accordance with legislation so as to minimise the risk of infection or injury to patients, staff and the public.
- Management of Equipment: All patient equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately to prevent cross infection.
- Infection Prevention and Control Management: Infection prevention and control is managed effectively, given high priority and seen as an integral part within the area.
- Environment: The environment is designed and managed effectively to minimise reservoirs for micro-organisms and reduce the risk of cross infection to patients, staff and visitors.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Protective clothing is available and worn for all aspects of care which may involve contact with blood or body fluids or where asepsis is required.
- Sharps Handling and Disposal: Sharps are managed safely to reduce the risk of inoculation injury.
- Minor Surgery Room: Review of room to meet required standards.
- Practice Nurse Room: Review of room to meet required standards.
- Action Sheet: A summary of actions to implement.
Duration:
Around 6 hours in total.
Access required:
The assessor will need access to the entire building but this can be phased over the day. They will also need to be able to speak to the on site IPC champion or lead at points throughout the day.
